Glutencheck privacy policy

Last updated: 19 October 2026

Glutencheck is an iOS app that helps you check whether a product contains gluten. It is developed by Anton Wubben in his spare time. This policy describes which data the app uses and what happens to it.

Summary

Photos and camera

The app uses the camera to photograph a barcode or ingredient list. Barcodes and text are read on the device itself using the recognition built into iOS. The photo is not stored and not sent to any server.

Open Food Facts

To identify a product, the app sends the barcode, or the typed or photo-recognised search text, to the open product database Open Food Facts. As with any internet request, Open Food Facts receives your IP address. Open Food Facts is an independent organisation with its own privacy policy. Product data is available under the Open Database License (ODbL). If you photograph only an ingredient list, Open Food Facts is not used.

History

Every check is saved in the history on your device so you can look results up later. This data is not synchronised or shared. You can delete individual checks or the whole history in the app. Deleting the app removes it entirely.

Feedback

If you send feedback through the app, your message and, if you enter it, your email address are sent via the FormSubmit service and delivered to the developer's mailbox. This data is used only to respond to your feedback and improve the app. Your email address is optional.

Tips (in-app purchases)

Tips to the developer are handled through Apple's in-app purchases. Payment is processed entirely by Apple; the app sees no payment details. Apple's privacy policy applies.

Settings

Preferences such as language, appearance and default search mode are stored only on your device.

Children

The app collects no personal data and is therefore also suitable for use by children.

Changes

If this policy changes, this page is updated with the date at the top.
